Regional Cooperation Needed for Wood Provision
Wisnu Foundation pushes Bali province government to cooperate with other wood producer areas in Indonesia. It is aiming to provide woods for wood craftsmen in Bali who asked about 50.000 cubic woods monthly. The director of Wisnu Foundation Made Suarnatha stated there should be a joint to provide woods for Balinese craftsmen due to Bali has not enough production forest. This joint needed also to ensure craftsmen got legal woods while currently government had validated verification system for wood legality (SVLK).
“Eastern Indonesia areas still have much empty land to generate high quality woods. There should be a regional joint between Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara to result wooden stocks continuously. Further local people can produce high quality woods then Balinese people can make high quality wooden handicrafts with legal material,” said Mr Made Suarnatha. Mr Suarnatha added this cooperation is important to ensure the development of wooden handicrafts in Bali. Based on Dekranasda Bali data, there are about 74.000 unit of home business in Bali while most of them are using wood as raw material.
